So you’ve decided you need a designer, but don't know where to begin?
Here are a few things you can do to help figure out which designer you can trust with your brand.
1. Check their past work: All designers should have a portfolio, don’t be afraid to request their portfolio before you start working with them. Look at their social media, do the have a website or behance profile? Ideally you want to see the quality of their work. Ask the designer questions about specific projects, get a feel for them as a person and for their professionalism. 2. Speak to them directly: Do a quick chemistry test, have a chat to the designer on the phone or via video call. You can get a good feel for whole they are and see if they will be great for your brand.
3. Be clear about your goals “Any successful project starts by providing enough background information to the talent you’re trying to attract. Be sure your create a brief goes into detail about your company, the objectives of the project, and the specific qualifications you’re looking for. "Sharing deadlines and any potential obstacles upfront in a graphic design position ensures that candidates will have a good understanding of the project and gauge whether they can meet your expectations before submitting a proposal” - sourced from Keith Koons. 4. Be realistic about your budget: “The basis for your budget for graphic design work has to be communication. You must know and be up-front with your designer about how much you can (or want to) spend on a specific task. A professional graphic designer will tell you whether your budget is realistic, given the scope of the work you’re asking for, and can provide options to help you to achieve your aims. "Being honest about your budget concerns also allows the graphic designer to help you avoid enlarging the scope of your project. If your vision for the work truly changes along the way, the designer can help you plan an implementation timeline that respects both your needs and the limitations of your budget,” says Grant Street Creative
